CBSE Postpones CTET 2026, Reopens Application Window for Eligible Candidates

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed the **Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) September 2026** examination and reopened the application window, giving eligible candidates another opportunity to register. The development comes after the board considered the need to provide eligible teachers with a reasonable opportunity to meet the prescribed Teacher Eligibility Test requirement.

The CTET September 2026 examination was originally scheduled for **September 6, 2026**. CBSE has not yet announced a revised examination date and is expected to issue a separate notification regarding the new schedule.



CTET 2026 Application Window Reopened

According to the latest CBSE notice, the online application portal has been reopened from **August 25 through September 1, 2026**. The opportunity is specifically for eligible candidates who could not complete their applications during the earlier registration period.

Candidates who had already successfully submitted their CTET applications during the earlier window **do not need to apply again**. Their existing applications will remain valid.

The original application window for CTET September 2026 was held earlier in the year, with registrations beginning in May and closing in June. CBSE has now provided an additional opportunity for eligible applicants who missed that deadline.



Why Has CBSE Postponed CTET 2026?

CBSE's decision follows a recent **Supreme Court judgment** that emphasised the importance of providing eligible teachers with a reasonable opportunity to fulfil the statutory requirement of obtaining the prescribed TET qualification. The board said the decision was taken in the larger interest of candidates.

The reopening of the application portal therefore gives candidates who missed the original registration period another opportunity to participate in the examination.







What Should Registered Candidates Do?

Candidates who have already completed and submitted their applications do not need to submit a fresh application. They should instead wait for CBSE's announcement regarding the revised examination schedule and continue checking official CTET updates.

Candidates who are eligible but did not register earlier can use the reopened application window before the September 1 deadline.

The official CTET website currently lists notices and updates related to the September 2026 examination.



Revised CTET Exam Date Yet to Be Announced

For now, the most important change is that the previously scheduled September 6 examination will not take place on that date. CBSE is expected to announce the revised CTET 2026 examination date separately.

Candidates should rely on official CBSE and CTET notifications for the latest information rather than assuming the original examination date remains unchanged.

The postponement and reopening of applications provide eligible candidates with additional time to complete the registration process and prepare for the upcoming CTET examination.
