Zoho Enters Hardware Market with Made-in-India Server ‘Nathu La’

Indian software giant Zoho has officially entered the hardware sector with the launch of its India-designed server platform, Nathu La. The move marks a significant expansion beyond the company's traditional software business and reflects its ambition to reduce infrastructure costs amid growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and data center computing.

The new server platform has been designed and manufactured in India, aligning with the country's push for technological self-reliance and domestic innovation. Zoho expects to have nearly 1,000 servers in production and pre-production deployments, with the number projected to reach around 2,000 by the end of 2026.

According to the company, Nathu La has been developed to improve efficiency and lower the overall cost of operating data centers. Reports indicate that data centers using the new servers could achieve similar performance while consuming significantly less power and reducing total ownership costs. These savings could become increasingly important as businesses invest heavily in AI infrastructure.

The launch also fulfills a long-term vision outlined by Zoho leadership several years ago, when the company expressed interest in developing its own server hardware to reduce dependence on external providers and control infrastructure expenses.

Founded as a software company, Zoho has built a global reputation through its cloud-based business applications and enterprise software solutions. With Nathu La, the company is now positioning itself as a player in both software and hardware, a strategy that could strengthen its control over critical computing infrastructure.

Industry observers view the launch as an important step toward building indigenous technology capabilities in India. As AI workloads continue to grow and data center costs rise worldwide, locally developed hardware solutions may play a bigger role in supporting the country's digital economy.

The introduction of Nathu La highlights Zoho's broader commitment to innovation and self-reliance while opening a new chapter in the company's growth journey beyond software.
