US President Donald Trump has concluded a high-profile summit in Beijing with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as discussions centered around global trade, Iran tensions, and Taiwan relations.
Speaking after the meeting, Trump said that both nations had resolved “many different issues,” although no major agreements or policy breakthroughs were officially announced following the summit. The meeting is being viewed as a significant moment in US-China relations amid growing geopolitical tensions.
One of the key topics during the talks was Iran. Trump stated that both leaders agreed Iran should not possess nuclear weapons. He also commented on the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting that China relies more heavily on the route for energy supplies than the United States does.
Meanwhile, China’s foreign ministry expressed concern over the ongoing conflict involving Iran, stating that the war “should never have happened” and calling for stability in the region.
Taiwan also remained a major point of discussion during the summit. Xi reportedly described Taiwan as the “most important issue” in China-US relations and warned that mishandling the matter could lead to a dangerous situation.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio later said that Washington’s policy toward Taiwan remains unchanged despite the strong remarks from Beijing.
The summit highlighted the continuing competition and complex relationship between the world’s two largest economies, with global attention focused on how future negotiations may shape international trade, security, and diplomacy.
